HOW TO PURCHASE HEALTH INSURANCE FOR YOUR SMALL BUSINESS

Small businesses have several ways to purchase health insurance.

NYSmallHealth provides your small business with access to all of these options.

Savings can be substantial when you buy the right plan for your employees.

1

Your small business can purchase insurance with a New York or New Jersey carrier.

MANY COMPANIES QUALIFY!

Generally speaking, your business must have at least two employees. In addition, at least 60% of those eligible must enroll for your business to secure coverage as a small group.

2

You can purchase your small group insurance through a Professional Employer Organization (PEO).

In most cases, you are eligible if you have five or more employees. Insurance rates through PEO’s can be very competitive. The best rates are reserved for high-earning businesses. PEO’s also perform much of the human resources work most small companies do not adequately handle. The PEO charges a fee. However, the cost of the fee is often offset by the Health Insurance premium savings.

3

Buying from a Private Exchange. These exchanges provide a platform allowing your employees to

choose from several carriers. Some fees are charged for this as well.

However, having multiple options for your staff as a benefit can far outweigh the cost.
